With strategic investments and new talent, Weston ramps up its transformation across federal, state, local, and private sectors
In 1957, engineer Roy F. Weston launched a firm with a bold vision: engineering could heal the environment instead of harming it. From its roots in Pennsylvania, Weston tackled one of its earliest challenges: protecting the Susquehanna River from industrial pollution, setting the stage for decades of environmental stewardship. What began as a small consultancy grew into a nationally recognized leader in environmental and infrastructure services. Today, as a 100-percent employee-owned company, Weston delivers innovative solutions in remediation, construction, and energy systems, helping government and private sector clients build a safer, more sustainable future.

#As Weston continues to build on this legacy, its focus has shifted toward shaping the future. That vision is guided by leaders such as Senior Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer Jon Brownstein, who describes the company’s long-term strategy as its ‘north star.’ “We’re in the process of figuring out how we can diversify both our client base and the services we provide,” he explains. “It’s an exciting time for Weston, with a lot of strategic investment going on, examining who we are and how we want to grow. This focus is driven by two things: how to enhance our value proposition to our clients and how to improve our employee experience. Those two elements drive us more than anything else. Our construction services and site investigation and remediation have grown dramatically over the past 20 years, particularly in the federal space. Now, we are redirecting attention back to other offerings such as engineering design, environmental planning and permitting, digital solutions, and multimedia compliance.”
Weston offers comprehensive support to a range of facilities, including military bases, college campuses, and manufacturing facilities. The company’s strategy is rooted in providing clients with a full life cycle approach. “The common thread between those is that they all have complex environmental and infrastructure challenges, including planning, compliance, and safety issues they must address. Weston is focused on supporting our clients in the development of appropriate strategic, effective, and efficient solutions to managing those sites,” explains Jon. “Every facility goes through a life cycle: planning and permitting, design, bid, build, operation and maintenance, and eventually decommissioning. Weston condenses and optimizes the stages we can support most effectively, giving clients continuity and expertise throughout the process.”
Weston’s transformation is already visible in major initiatives. Recently, Weston hired a large environmental health and safety team on the West Coast. “We have just onboarded 20 people for that initiative, which will spur a lot of new developments for us, so it’s very exciting,” Jon continues.
Another milestone was a critical power stabilization project in Puerto Rico. “The US Army Corps of Engineers approached us to help restore grid reliability following Hurricane Fiona. Under FEMA’s emergency mission, Weston installed temporary dual-fuel generation systems, adding 200 MW at San Juan and 150 MW at Palo Seco to help stabilize the grid. This was one of the fastest deployments of its kind, completed in under six months and providing reliable power to hundreds of thousands of residents. It showcased our ability to mobilize quickly, manage complex logistics, and deliver results under extreme conditions. Beyond that, we’re also investing in clean energy initiatives, including EV charging infrastructure for municipalities and private-sector clients, supported by federal funding.
“We’re a 100-percent employee-owned company, and it’s great because the general ethos among employees is ‘when Weston does better, we do all do better.’

And what makes Weston’s culture truly special is that we value every team member, whether they’ve been with us for decades or are new to the organization. Our long-tenured employees, some with 25-to-30 years of service, bring invaluable experience and continuity to our culture. At the same time, we actively recruit new talent for key roles, welcoming fresh ideas and perspectives.”
Sustainability
In addition to its commitment to employee ownership, Weston remains deeply dedicated to sustainability. As Jon explains: “We integrate green remediation practices into every project site, reflecting our responsibility as citizens to do this as effectively as possible. Weston has been at the forefront of installing green roofs, including notable projects like the Barclays Center in Downtown Brooklyn, and we offer our own green roof solution, GreenGrid®. We’re also actively involved in solar initiatives, especially throughout the Northeast, and are exploring innovative ways to manage energy and water consumption in data centers, an area with significant growth potential. Furthering our environmental impact, Weston is developing its wastewater team and has achieved considerable success in Texas, particularly within the municipal sector, by introducing smart design principles to enhance wastewater facilities.”
Jon wraps up by commenting on the year ahead. “For 2026, our top priority remains firmly aligned with our ‘north star’ and ensuring a seamless integration of our expanded West Coast team. We’re also eyeing new opportunities in New York, all with the goal of giving our clients the best support possible and continuing to create more value for our employee-owners. On top of that, we’re committed to strategic growth and actively exploring opportunities for partnerships and integrations, especially to strengthen our state, local, and private sector practices. Setting up Centers of Excellence in the places where our clients are based is really important to us, and we’re working hard to do that even better. At the same time, we’re finding ways to use what we’ve learned in the federal space to help our private sector work and vice versa. In the end, it’s all about bringing together our skills, our amazing team, and our wide range of experiences to build something truly outstanding.”
