How strong partnerships and a people-first culture continue to shape MGM Construction Group’s success

Established five years ago, MGM Construction Group (MGM) serves as a general contractor with a developer background. The company’s founders recognized a need and wanted to differentiate in the market by combining their skills as both general contractors and developers.

“In other words, we offer an all-in-one solution,” begins Maria Alejandra Fermin, President. “We are located in Hallandale Beach and since our inception, we have been focused on targeting the mid- to high-rise sector, which is not very common in our area, allowing us to stand out. On top of that, we have a small, dedicated department for interior buildouts and commercial projects. Our all-in-one approach sets us apart, as most companies typically specialize in either development or general contracting.”

Recently, MGM was awarded the construction of Seven Park Residences, a new eight-story mixed-use development that will introduce 121 modern residences and 30,000 square feet of amenities to the heart of Hallandale Beach. This project is unique and significant for the city, as MGM, alongside the developer, is promising to deliver affordable living options that incorporate high-end details. A beautifully designed mid-rise, the Seven Park Residences feature intricate architectural elements and are situated in a prime location blessed with great weather, just a short distance from the beach. The project will offer a range of living options from studios to three-bedroom homes, spanning 500-to-1645 square feet. In terms of price range, the properties start at $375,000. Residents will enjoy a resort-style amenity package that includes a pool and hot tubs, a lounge area, and a wellness center equipped with a steam room, sauna and cold plunge.

People-first ethos

Across its projects and beyond, one thing that is crucial to MGM is the long-term collaborative partnerships it has cultivated with industry professionals over the years. Maria tells us more about her approach to building and maintaining these relationships. “The way I always want our company to handle partnerships with different trades is through effective communication, ensuring that we deliver on time and that everyone’s contributions are recognized. We aim to provide the best results as promptly as possible all while maintaining high standards of communication. Working closely with our partners is also essential and has been the key to our success. Additionally, we must be willing to compromise with one another to achieve our goals, because success for one is ultimately success for the entire team,” she explains.

This collaborative approach is an integral part of MGM’s culture, as are family values. In fact, MGM is a certified Great Place To Work, reflecting the powerful impact of its people-first ethos, which follows a similar model to its relationship-building strategies in the industry. “We are very pro-family because we understand that, even though working at MGM is just a job, we spend more time here than we do at home. Therefore, we make a point of emphasizing the importance of being productive at work while maintaining a balance between work and family to ensure a successful team. I strive to make everyone feel that both their work and family lives are extremely important to us,” Maria informs.

As a woman leader in a male-dominated industry, Maria offers a unique perspective on what it is like for her to lead a construction company. “Even though I am very proud to be one of the pioneers as a woman in this traditionally male-dominated field, I do not want to use my gender as a crutch or a badge of honor. I believe that being a good leader takes a lot of hard work, commitment and responsibility. My hope is that more women will enter this industry, which offers so many opportunities. However, I want to emphasize that my achievements are due to my hard work and perseverance, rather than simply being a woman. I believe that we need more women in high positions in male-dominated industries, and they must be willing to work hard and strive for their goals,” she asserts.

Prioritizing collaboration

Maria is now looking forward to taking the business to new heights and shares her outlook for both the short and long term. “For the year ahead, we have a robust pipeline in development. Throughout 2025, I have worked closely with our team to create a solid foundation for future endeavors. My priority for this year is to finalize and consolidate some of our main projects. Looking ahead, my primary goal over the next three to five years is to position MGM as a reliable and safe partner for other developers to work with. Additionally, we aim to be recognized as a stable company where relationships are built on trust and collaboration. We want developers to feel confident bringing their projects to us, knowing we will expertly take care of each detail while integrating both our vision and theirs into the final product,” she ends.

Through her leadership style, Maria ensures a balanced, inclusive environment that nurtures partnerships and drives success both in the industry and for MGM.
