Defined by its deep-rooted expertise and forward-thinking approach, Atlantic Constructors Inc. is built for the future
Leading at the forefront of Virginia’s construction scene, Atlantic Constructors Inc (ACI) is a multidisciplinary contractor that has distinguished itself as a true market leader. Providing a diverse scope of modular fabrication and integration facility solutions, ACI’s mission is centered around one core principle: to provide extraordinary facility solutions for its clients. The company’s legacy spans over 50 years and, with several exciting projects and investments underway, ACI is well-positioned for further growth and success as it continues to support its valued customers and elevate its service offerings to new heights. Construction Today sits down with Evan Shriver, ACI’s Chief Executive Officer, to learn more about the company’s recent developments and to uncover its strategic vision for the future. He begins by providing some insight into ACI’s background.
“ACI is a commercial, industrial, and mechanical contractor based in Richmond, Virginia. We’re a combination of two predecessor companies that date all the way
back to the 1950s, which is what gave us those industrial and commercial capabilities,” Evan says. “The two companies were combined to form ACI in 2003 and, today, we have five offices across Virginia and North Carolina. Earlier this year, we then became a part of the Triple Point platform, which brings six mechanical contractors from across the country under common ownership. Together, our motto is to get ‘Better Together’, so that we can bring the best of all the businesses together to achieve the most productive, but also one of the best, companies to work for in the nation.”
Encompassing a vast range of specialisms across a number of market sectors, including healthcare, industrial, laboratory, public, and education, ACI’s comprehensive scope of capabilities makes it the partner of choice for a plethora of different projects. From structural steel fabrication to process piping, HVAC, electrical services, and fire protection, ACI is proud to offer a breadth of turnkey solutions that have only continued to improve as it embarks further on its journey. Aligning with its client-centric ethos, the company has augmented its modular fabrication services in response to the increase in industry demand. Through its highly automated 340,000-square-foot facilities in Richmond, ACI provides a plethora of integrated modular solutions for projects of all scales and complexities, handling everything from initial design and manufacture right through to delivery.
Evan elaborates: “With our modular fabrication, we can build structural steel frames the size of a tractor trailer approximately 50 feet long. We then pre-install all of the major mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for the building onto the steel frames, and we then ship those frames all across the country. It’s really helped us to break the geographical boundaries of the projects that we’re able to participate in.”
As the company embarks further on its growth trajectory and the demand for its modular services continues to rise, ACI has invested heavily in its infrastructure. Consequently, its state-of-the-art Richmond headquarters underwent a major expansion in February 2025. Enter: HQ 2 – a new, 170,000-square-foot building dedicated entirely to ACI’s modular fabrication processes. The $25 million investment operates in conjunction with ACI’s HQ 1 and will increase its modular capacity by five times, marking an evolutionary shift in the company’s overall speed and efficiency.
“We’ve recently doubled the square footage of our Richmond headquarters, which we were really excited about. We added an additional 170,000 square feet to the facility, taking it to a total of around 340,000 square feet; this has allowed us to not only expand our one-stop fabrication capabilities, but offer a new facility to further build out our modular fabrication,” Evan explains.
“Essentially, we’ll take the parts and pieces from HQ 1 and move them to HQ 2 for the volumetric modular assembly,” he continues, elaborating further on the process. “This system allows us to be more efficient because we’re moving more of those trade hours off the job site and into a controlled environment with highly automated, robotic machinery, which means that we can get more work completed with the same number of people whilst maximizing our key performance metrics, such as safety, quality, and productivity. It enables us to give our people the best working environment that we can.”
As Evan emphasizes, nurturing the wellbeing of its workforce is absolutely paramount in ACI’s people-focused culture. The company’s core values of innovation, collaboration, and diversity permeate every facet of its culture and operations and is one of the key driving factors behind its longevity and continued success.
“I think that a lot of companies overlook just how important it is to concentrate on your company culture,” Evan highlights. “We really lean into this at ACI and live by our core values, one of which is to be genuinely people-focused. This value forms a part of everything that we do, from our employee orientation and onboarding to our annual evaluations and the awards that we do throughout the year. We aim to be positively tenacious – to be determined to help our customers and achieve our mission in a positive way.”
Through this tenacity, it’s clear that ACI has excelled in its mission and will continue to do so for many more decades to come. With 700 highly-skilled employees and a fully integrated facility equipped with cutting-edge technologies, the company is well-positioned for a future filled with further growth, excellence, and success, as it continues to uplift its customers’ missions alongside its own.
“Our mission is to provide diverse and extraordinary facility solutions to support the missions of our customers. With that in mind, we feel that our customers really need us as we continue to lead into 2026 and beyond,” Evan affirms, optimistic for the future ahead. “Our focus for the next year is to look at how we can further support our customers – how we can get better and increase our quality and capacity in a safe manner.
“Over the next five years, we’ll continue to expand our geography,” Evan concludes. “We want to continue to set up additional offices that allow us to bring on extra geographies for both new and repeat customers. We’ll also be placing a real focus on expanding our modular construction to support our customers, and I can see those operations even expanding internationally as we continue to grow.”
