Celebrating 18 years of success, Place Services, Inc. (PSI) steps into 2025 with new ventures and a bold vision for the future
Founded in 2006 by President Troy Place, Place Services, Inc. has transformed from a small residential construction company into a North American leader in commercial construction and remodeling services. This transformation has been driven by a keen ability to adapt and innovate, as Troy explains: “Our journey began in residential construction, but the economic challenges of 2008 led us to pivot towards commercial projects. Our breakthrough came with Walmart, where we initially provided door installation services. As our capabilities expanded to include metal framing, drywall, and other trades, so did our relationship with Walmart. In 2016, we became their direct contractor, a milestone that expanded the scope of each proceeding opportunity. Today, we are their largest contractor.”
Diversification and vertical integration
PSI’s growth strategy centers on a unique multidivisional structure. The company is composed of 20 specialized departments, offering services ranging from general contracting to architecture, design, and all major trade disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, fire sprinkler, plumbing, refrigeration, concrete, and more.
While maintaining its longstanding partnership with Walmart as a key client, PSI has expanded its portfolio by securing contracts with federal, state, and local governments. The company continues to diversify across major commercial sectors and retailers, showcasing its impressive ability to deliver excellence in various markets.
This comprehensive in-house expertise allows PSI to deliver end-to-end construction solutions while maintaining direct quality control and operational efficiency. “Unlike many general contractors who outsource critical components, our self-perform model means we can ensure consistency, reliability, and superior craftsmanship across all phases of a project,” Troy emphasizes.
This model not only sets PSI apart from its competitors but also positions the company as a valued partner within the industry. “Many firms turn to us for specialized services they can’t perform in-house. We’ve maintained strong relationships with those companies. We collaborate while still competing, which strengthens our market presence.”
Strategic expansion through acquisition
A cornerstone of PSI’s growth strategy is its focus on strategic acquisitions that align with its core competencies and growth objectives. A recent highlight was the acquisition of Atlanta Concrete Company, a former vendor with an established working relationship with PSI.
“The acquisition was a natural fit,” Troy notes. “They were already familiar with our processes, culture, and clients, making integration seamless.”
This approach ensures PSI continues to expand its service portfolio while maintaining the high standards its clients expect.
Investing in people and infrastructure
PSI’s commitment to growth goes beyond services and market reach. The company is also investing in a brand-new headquarters located in Canton, GA, strategically positioned to tap into the competitive talent pool of the state’s major cities, being just north of metro Atlanta.
“We currently have eight different locations, and we’re about to open three more, one of which will be our new headquarters. The investment is about more than just a new office space. We’re bringing our diverse teams together to foster collaboration, innovation, and a stronger company culture,” Troy explains.
Designed to accommodate 185 local staff members, the new building will become a hub for strategic planning and operational excellence, setting the stage for PSI’s next growth phase.
A vision for long-term legacy
Looking forward, Troy Place’s vision extends far beyond immediate growth. “I’m committed to building a legacy that will endure beyond my generation of leadership. This means building a long-term, sustainable structure that can stand the test of time.”
PSI’s long-term strategy includes continuing to empower its workforce through leadership development and investment in people and company culture, with a key focus on these areas in the coming years.
As Place Services Inc. celebrates its 18th anniversary, the company exemplifies how hard work, and unwavering faith can transform humble beginnings into a strategic blueprint for excellence. Troy concludes with confidence: “I believe in this business and the incredible team driving it forward. The future is bright, and we’re just getting started. Together, we’ll build a legacy that lasts for generations.”
