Balfour Beatty has been awarded an $889 million contract by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to reconstruct and expand a critical section of Interstate 30 (I-30) through Dallas. The contract, part of TxDOT’s initiative to modernize major corridors, covers a 2.3-mile stretch of I-30 that serves as a primary artery for commuters and freight transport in North Texas.

The strategic importance of Interstate 30 in Texas’s transportation network

Interstate 30 holds substantial importance within Texas’s extensive highway system, connecting key metropolitan areas such as Fort Worth and Dallas. Serving more than 200,000 vehicles daily at some segments, the highway facilitates regional commerce, emergency services, and daily commutes.

With Texas continuing to experience significant population and economic growth, ensuring that primary transport corridors like I-30 can support rising traffic volumes has become a state priority. TxDOT’s decision to invest in this project aligns with broader efforts to boost transportation efficiency, reduce congestion, and improve roadway safety across the region.

The reconstruction project is anticipated to deliver far-reaching benefits, including shortened commute times, improved air quality due to reduced vehicle idling, and enhanced access to surrounding neighborhoods and commercial hubs. For businesses, a modernized I-30 will support more reliable supply chains and logistics operations throughout North Texas.

Balfour Beatty’s growing presence in US infrastructure projects

Balfour Beatty’s role in the I-30 project underscores the company’s growing footprint in the US infrastructure sector. Known for managing complex, large-scale transportation projects, Balfour Beatty has delivered major roadway improvements across Texas, California, Florida, and the East Coast.

Recent projects, such as the Southern Gateway reconstruction in Dallas and highway upgrades in Houston, have strengthened the company’s reputation for delivering transportation infrastructure that meets future demands.

The I-30 project will involve widening the interstate, upgrading interchanges, and improving overall traffic management systems. Construction activities are expected to start in 2025, with a scheduled completion date in 2032. The extensive reconstruction aims to enhance safety measures, reduce bottlenecks, and create a more resilient infrastructure for the growing Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
