Hudson Meridian Construction Group is one of the leading construction services firms in New York City providing a unique combination of construction expertise, including new construction, restoration projects, and emergency and disaster response services.

Hudson Meridian’s residential and public sector projects range from public housing and new luxury residential high-rises to adaptive re-use of industrial buildings.

Additionally, the company also offers a variety of consulting services for project enhancement such as owner representation, claim analysis, project performance review, investigations, and project scheduling and monitoring.

“Hudson Meridian has extensive experience in LEED certification projects and GREEN technologies,” says Senior Vice President Luciano Bana. “We have completed multiple new buildings achieving LEED Silver or higher ratings.

“While we are mainly involved in new construction and restoration projects, we also have extensive experience in educational facilities, retail/commercial projects, waterfront work including parks, greenway, esplanade, marine and consultant management projects,” Bana says.

Under the leadership of CEO and founder William Cote – who has more than 35 years of experience in the construction industry – today Hudson Meridian is ranked among New York City's Top 100 Contractors and the nation's Top 400 firms. The company is also recognized as an award-winning construction manager.

“We are presently performing approximately 65 percent construction management and 35 percent general contractor work,” Bana says. “However, at times, this has been as much as fifty/fifty.” hudson meridian box

Not only has Hudson Meridian’s leadership contributed to its success, but also its more than 100 employees, Bana notes.

“Hudson Meridian's employees possess the talent to act as construction managers, program managers, and general contractors to serve the specific needs of our clients,” Bana says. “Having consistently won national and local industry awards for our private- and public-sector work, Hudson Meridian has demonstrated our commitment to providing the best quality and value to our clients.

“Proficient in the latest construction techniques, methods and technologies, we are able to deliver projects on schedule and on budget that are true to our clients' visions without sacrificing quality,” Bana adds.

Still Building

The Queens Plaza Residential Development is one of Hudson Meridian’s latest projects. Located in Long Island City, N.Y., Queens Plaza will boast multiple upscale mixed-use residential towers, as well as a nearly two-acre private park.

The 580,000 square feet project will be completed in two phases. Phase I includes the installation and support of excavation on a surrounding a two-and-a-half acre site, construction of foundations for three residential towers – Tower A, Tower B1 and Tower B2 - in addition to an amenity building and parking garage.

Phase II includes the complete construction of Tower B1, which is approximately 611,000 square feet.

Hudson Meridian, who started construction in 2015, is constructing Tower B1, the parking garage and amenity building.

Bana is serving as the project executive on the Queens Plaza project. “We anticipate completion in 2018,” Bana says. “Tower B1 will be 57 stories and feature residential units, a below-grade cellar with mechanical rooms, 4,858 square feet of retail space, and a lobby on its ground floor.”

He explains the nearly 23,000-square-feet parking garage, which is adjacent to Tower B1, will consist of 117 parking spaces, and will also feature bicycle storage, a loading dock and storage rooms.

“The building’s façade is predominately a hybrid curtain wall system by SOTA,” Bana says.

The five-story amenity building will be constructed of steel and concrete on metal deck. Its façade will boast brick, metal panel, punched windows, curtain wall and a storefront.

“It will feature indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, basketball court, squash court, game rooms, demonstration kitchen, as well as rooftop and outdoor amenity spaces,” Bana notes.

A recent survey by The Real Deal ranks Hudson Meridian sixth among the Top 20 New York City General Contractors by ground-up projects. Bana adds that the company’s success so far is due to its “great relationships” with subcontractors.

“All of our subcontractors are selectively chosen to meet a project’s criteria, including its schedule,” Bana says. “Our team works very efficiently together. Our deliverables are now most effective electronically, which is why all of my supervisors use tablets and iPads on the jobsite.”

On Schedule

Hudson Meridian is also developing 86 Fleet Place, a mixed-use skyscraper located in downtown Brooklyn. The 33-story building will feature 440 residential units, as well as about 10,000 square feet of ground floor retail space.

It will also include 35,000-square-feet of parking spaces, landscaped roof decks, and 10,000-square-feet of amenity spaces, which include a gym, common party room, lounge area and children’s playroom.

“The 440 rental units will have wood flooring, stone countertops in the kitchen, tile and stone bathrooms, and washer/dryers in each unit,” Bana says. “The project also consists of cast-in-place concrete structure with two-levels below grade, glazed window wall systems, four passenger elevators, one service elevator, and two vehicle elevators.”

Red Apple Group is developing the project, which will be an addition to its ongoing Myrtle Avenue development project, which includes 160 and 180 Myrtle Avenue. Construction of 86 Fleet Place is expected to be completed this fall with more than 300 workers on site over the two-and-a-half-year construction period.

Strong Experience

Luciano Bana, senior vice president at Hudson Meridian Construction Group, has more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry. He’s worked on various projects including residential hi-rise, rental hi-rise, hotels, institutional, medical, lab, technical facilities, and public sector works.

He has also served as a senior project executive on multiple projects ranging from $1 million to $40 million per year. Some of these projects include the Beacon Towers, SLS Hotel, Hilton Gardens Inn and The Addison.

“The Addison is a $140 million project in Brooklyn where I was in charge of developing and maintaining ACR cost reports, schedule of values, staffing requirements, and subcontractor award and approval utilizing a buy line schedule for delivery to maintain required field deliveries,” Bana says.

Bana adds that he also developed, executed and maintained on-site training, and negotiated and developed risk control and instituted a CCIP program.

As a Senior Vice President and Project Executive for Hudson Meridian Construction Group, Bana provides leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations for all the company’s construction and project management activities.

Some of his primary duties include client maintenance, subcontractor performance issues, constructability and technical issues, risk analysis, and development and implementation of corporate policies and procedures.

“I also work closely with ownership lenders, consultants, and site representative to outline project controls and delivery methods,” he says.
