Celebrating 100 years in business is a milestone in any industry, and CDS Mestel Construction Corp. has persevered for a century because it understands how to successfully complete commercial construction projects. Founded in 1916 in Brooklyn, the company is today headquartered in Garden City Park, N.Y. and provides preconstruction, design/build, construction management and general contracting services.

Spoleta picSpoleta Construction is delivering a new waterfront residential development in New York.

By Chris Petersen

Boasting a prime location along the waterfront of Irondequoit Bay and just minutes from downtown Rochester, N.Y., the Southpoint Cove development is expected to be a hot property once it’s completed next year. The 345-unit apartment complex will offer residents convenience and comfort in a highly desirable location, and a project of its size and scope required the services of a qualified and experienced general contractor.

Fortunately for Southpoint Cove, it has such a contractor in the form of Rochester-based Spoleta Construction. Project Manager Derek Harrison says the company’s long history of involvement in the residential sector makes Southpoint Cove a perfect fit for its expertise.

“The company has been around for about 60 years, and in that time has done a lot of residential development-type work, so this was just on a slightly bigger scale,” Harrison says. “This is probably one of the larger apartment developments we’ve done.”

The company extensively uses building information modeling (BIM) software for a top client, WeWork – the leader in shared coworking space nationally. “WeWork, being a tech- saavy enterprise themselves, are very into our  BIM technology capabilities and strongly believe in BIM’s ability to produce a much faster finished product. It’s important to them because they can open new locations and start filling desks sooner. CEO Albert Gjonbalaj says. “Right now we’re using it on every project with them, and extending it to other clients open to using it.”

By Stephanie Crets

The fast-paced world of retail and restaurant construction energizes Cocozza Group and has allowed the company to grow substantially every year since its inception. Founder and President Dan Cocozza fell in love with the work early in his construction career and decided to strike out on his own in 2012.

“I love the fast-paced nature of those projects; they’re all two to three months long, instead of two to three years long, which is what I was previously working on,” he recalls. “I love that each project is so unique, especially in New York City. We got our first project in January 2013 and we’ve been really fortunate to be going ever since.”
